Supporting World Alzheimer’s Month at Trace Recruitment
World Alzheimer’s Month came to a close in September, but there’s still more we can do.
One of our team shares their experience, highlighting why we support much-needed organisations like Alzheimer’s Research UK.
“Did you know Alzheimer's Disease is actually the most common cause of dementia in the UK? I didn’t.
I thought I knew what Alzheimer’s Disease was, until it became part of my family’s every day life.
It started small - forgetting names, and getting confused between the days.
Then it was refusal to leave the house, not getting pleasure out of every day activities, losing concentration, repeating themselves over and over.
Shortly after came the complete inability to recognise loved ones, get dressed or shower, or do anything unaided. It’s cruel - to watch a person you love become so different and, at the time, we didn’t recognise it for what it was - a slow, steady, but undeniable, decline. And yet, dementia is very common.
At the time of writing, Alzheimer’s UK state 1 million people in the UK are living with dementia. But it’s not only the person living with Dementia that is affected. Family, friends, colleagues, even neighbours and acquaintances are impacted by the decline in someone they know and love.
Although people can lessen their risk of getting dementia, there is still no cure and I’m proud to be part of Team Trace to fundraise and support this vital charity.”
Dementia is the UK’s leading cause of death – yet 1 in 3 people with dementia don't have a diagnosis.
You can support Alzheimer’s Research UK’s petition to help people get the diagnosis they need, quicker.
