Reciprocal Mentoring

• Definition – Mentoring in the workplace tends to describe a relationship in which a more experienced colleague shares their greater knowledge to support the development of an inexperienced member of staff.
  It calls on the skills of questioning, listening, clarifying and reframing that are also associated with coaching.

   

  

• It has long been held that experienced Accountants can help guide the careers and progression of aspiring juniors and those who have taken on a mentoring role have often found it to be really rewarding.  There is now an emerging school of thought (which experienced mentors probably know already) that if the mentoring relationship is set up to be less guide / guided and more two guides with different backgrounds, that both parties can really benefit.

  

• We are calling this Reciprocal Mentoring and with our network we can match the brightest, aspiring newly qualified accountants with the most successful business leaders. Whilst the business leaders may be able to use their experience to help the newly qualified avoid pitfalls and take advantage of opportunities, the newly qualified can challenge established thinking and share insight into the thinking and expectations of the next generation of accountants, in a symbiotic relationship.
